Our Mission
Holistic Vet Directory was created with a simple but important goal: to make it easier for pet owners to find qualified holistic and integrative veterinarians in their area. We believe that every pet deserves access to compassionate care that considers their complete well-being—physical, emotional, and environmental.
For many pet owners, discovering that holistic veterinary care exists is a turning point. Perhaps your dog has been struggling with chronic pain that conventional medications only partially address. Maybe your cat has digestive issues that keep recurring despite standard treatment. Or perhaps you simply believe in a more natural, whole-body approach to health—for yourself and for your animal companions.
Whatever brought you here, our directory connects you with veterinary professionals who combine the best of conventional medicine with natural healing modalities like acupuncture, herbal medicine, chiropractic care, homeopathy, and nutritional therapy. With over 3,000 practitioners listed across all 50 states, we are one of the most comprehensive holistic veterinary directories available.
Who We Are
We are a team of pet lovers and wellness advocates who saw a gap in the veterinary care landscape. While conventional veterinary medicine has made incredible advances, many pet owners are looking for practitioners who take a more integrative approach—vets who treat the whole animal, not just the symptoms.
Finding these practitioners, however, has traditionally been difficult. Holistic vets are listed across dozens of different professional association directories, individual practice websites, and word-of-mouth recommendations. We created Holistic Vet Directory to bring all of this information together in one searchable, easy-to-navigate directory.
Our team researches and verifies each listing to ensure you have access to accurate, up-to-date information about holistic veterinary practices in your area. We are committed to growing this resource so that no matter where you live, you can find a qualified holistic vet for your pet.
Holistic Vet Directory was founded and is edited by Kevin Collins. Read the founder's story and the inspiration behind Holistic Vet Directory.
What is Holistic Veterinary Medicine?
Holistic veterinary medicine is an approach to animal health care that considers the whole patient—not just symptoms or diseases. Holistic vets look at the complete picture, including:
- Physical health and symptoms: Current conditions, pain levels, mobility, and organ function
- Diet and nutrition: What your pet eats and how it affects their overall health
- Environment and lifestyle: Living conditions, exercise, exposure to toxins, and daily routine
- Emotional and behavioral well-being: Stress, anxiety, fear, and behavioral changes
- Relationships: Bonds with owners, other animals, and social interactions
Many pet owners seek this kind of care when they want a broader conversation about their animal's health, especially for ongoing concerns where diet, environment, behavior, and conventional treatment may all matter. The right plan depends on the individual pet and should be guided by a licensed veterinarian.
Integrative vs. Alternative
Most holistic veterinarians practice "integrative" medicine, meaning they combine conventional veterinary medicine with complementary therapies. This is an important distinction—integrative care is not about rejecting modern medicine. It is about using the best tools available for each individual patient.
A holistic vet might recommend surgery for a torn ligament while also using acupuncture for pain management and herbal supplements for healing support. They might prescribe antibiotics for a bacterial infection while also addressing the dietary and environmental factors that weakened the immune system. The goal is always optimal health and quality of life for your pet, using whatever combination of therapies will be most effective.
This integrative approach is why many pet owners are turning to holistic veterinary care—not to replace conventional medicine, but to complement it with gentler, natural therapies that support the body's own healing abilities.
Common Holistic Modalities
The veterinarians in our directory may offer some or all of these services:
- Acupuncture: Fine needle insertion at specific points, commonly used as part of pain, mobility, and wellness plans.
- Chiropractic: Spinal and joint adjustments performed by practitioners with animal chiropractic training.
- Herbal Medicine: Plant-based formulas selected by a veterinarian with appropriate training in herbs and drug interactions.
- Homeopathy: Highly dilute remedies used by some veterinarians as part of a broader holistic approach.
- Nutritional Therapy: Diet review, therapeutic nutrition planning, and supplement guidance based on the pet's needs.
- Physical Rehabilitation: Therapeutic exercises, hydrotherapy, and manual therapies used in recovery and mobility support.
- Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM): A system that may include acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, food therapy, and Tui-na massage.
- Laser Therapy: Light-based therapy some practices use for comfort, inflammation, or tissue support.
Editorial Standards & Listing Verification
We take the accuracy of our directory seriously. Holistic Vet Directory is a pet owner's resource, and our goal is to be useful, transparent, and easy to correct when information changes. Here is how we work.
How listings are verified
Listings reach our directory through two paths, each with its own checks before publication:
- Submitted listings are reviewed manually. Every practice submitted through our submission form is validated by hand before it is published.
- Bulk-loaded listings are cleansed and validated programmatically. Practices compiled from public sources and professional directories pass through our data transformation and load process, which applies automated data-cleansing and validation rules to standardize fields and catch obvious errors and duplicates.
- Random manual spot-checks. Beyond the automated rules, we manually verify a random sample of bulk-loaded listings to confirm the data quality holds up.
Across both paths, we look at the same core signals when the information is available:
- License status: Directory listings are intended for licensed veterinarians and veterinary practices. Pet owners should confirm licensure directly with the practice or state licensing board.
- Credential signals: Where available, we look for public credentials, memberships, or training references from organizations such as AHVMA, IVAS, the Chi Institute, AVCA, and other credentialing bodies.
- Contact information: Addresses, phone numbers, websites, and Google Business Profile details are checked against available public sources when possible.
- Service scope: Listed modalities are based on the information available from the practice, public directories, or submissions, and may change over time.
How often we update
- New practitioners are added on a rolling basis as we find public sources or receive submissions.
- Existing listings are updated when we find new information or receive corrections from practices or pet owners.
- Closed, relocated, or inaccurate listings can be reported through the contact page.
How our content is written
- Blog articles are general informational resources for pet owners. They are not a substitute for veterinary diagnosis, treatment, or emergency care.
- Practice descriptions may come from public practice information, owner submissions, or structured listing data. When no practice-written description is available, the site may use a neutral generated summary based on listing fields.
- AI-assisted writing: Some content on this site may be drafted or organized with AI tools. We avoid presenting AI-written educational content as veterinary advice or as a veterinary-reviewed medical resource.
- Nothing on this site is veterinary advice. Content is informational only and does not replace a consultation with a licensed veterinarian who has examined your pet.
Corrections policy
If you find an error — outdated contact information, a discontinued service, a factual mistake in a blog post, or an incorrect credential — please contact us. We review reports and update the site when we can confirm a correction.
Advertising & editorial independence
Holistic Vet Directory may be supported by display advertising and optional featured listings for practices. These commercial relationships do not influence which practices are included in the directory, the order in which practices appear in search results, or the substance of any blog article. Featured listings are clearly marked as such. Ads are labeled "Advertisement" or "Sponsored" per Google's advertising policies.
Affiliate disclosure
We may earn a small commission if you click a link to pet insurance, supplements, or books we recommend and make a purchase. Affiliate relationships do not change the price you pay, and they never influence which products or services we recommend. We only recommend products we believe are useful to holistic pet care.
Community feedback
Pet owners and practitioners are an essential part of keeping the directory accurate. If you have visited a practice and the information we have is wrong, or if you are a practitioner and want to update your listing, please reach out or use our submission form.

We recommend scheduling a consultation before committing to treatment. Most holistic vets are happy to speak with potential clients about their philosophy and treatment methods.
