The Story Behind HolisticVetDirectory.com: How One Rescue Dog Changed Everything
Hi, I'm Kevin.
My wife and I are avid animal lovers and proud pet parents to five rescue cats and one rescue dog. Our home is full of personalities, fur, and the occasional chaos that comes with loving animals as much as we do — and we wouldn't have it any other way. If you're ever considering adding a pet to your family, please consider adopting. It truly saves beautiful lives.
The inspiration behind HolisticVetDirectory.com began with a very special dog — our rescue pup, Zoe.

About eight years ago, my wife and I adopted Zoe from a rescue center just one day before she was scheduled to be euthanized. It's still hard for me to think about how close we came to never meeting her. From the moment we brought her home, we knew we had done the right thing.
But shortly after adopting her, we began to notice something wasn't quite right. Zoe was constantly scratching, sneezing, and coughing. At first, we thought it might simply be the stress of adjusting to a new environment. But the symptoms persisted.
Over time, we came to believe these symptoms had likely been masked long enough for her to be adopted. While it would have been nice to know that in advance, I can honestly say we never regretted bringing Zoe home for a single moment. Once she was part of our family, we were committed to doing everything we could to help her live a happy, healthy life.
Running Out of Options
Our first step was to visit several traditional veterinarians. Each appointment gave us hope that we were getting closer to a solution. Unfortunately, despite trying various medications and treatments, we didn't see meaningful improvement in Zoe's condition.
Like many pet owners facing ongoing health challenges, we felt frustrated and worried. Watching a beloved pet struggle — while feeling like you're running out of options — is one of the hardest experiences a pet owner can go through.
Discovering Holistic Veterinary Care
Eventually, we began exploring holistic and integrative approaches to veterinary care. This didn't mean abandoning traditional medicine — it meant expanding our options and looking at Zoe's health from a broader perspective.
That's when things started to change.
Through a combination of holistic support, lifestyle adjustments, and guidance from veterinarians who embraced a more integrative approach, we began to see real progress. Zoe's symptoms improved, her energy increased, and she seemed far more comfortable in her own skin.
For us, it was a powerful reminder that sometimes the best path forward involves combining traditional veterinary care with holistic methods that support the whole animal — body, mind, and environment.
The Problem: Finding Holistic Vets Wasn't Easy
As meaningful as our experience with holistic care was, finding those practitioners had not been easy. At the time, there was no simple, centralized place where pet owners could search for holistic veterinarians. Much of our research involved digging through forums, scattered websites, and word-of-mouth recommendations.
That experience planted a seed.
From Frustration to Action
I have a background in IT, and I began thinking about how I could use those skills to help other pet owners facing similar challenges. I wanted to create something practical — something that could save people time, reduce frustration, and potentially help animals get the care they need sooner.
That idea eventually became HolisticVetDirectory.com.
My goal with the site is simple but meaningful: to build the most comprehensive, easy-to-use directory of holistic veterinarians in the United States, available at no cost to pet owners searching for alternative or complementary approaches to conventional veterinary care.
This isn't about replacing conventional medicine — it's about expanding the toolbox available to pet owners and veterinarians alike.
Where the Site Stands Today
Since launching, the site has continued to grow in ways that make me genuinely grateful. We now have over 28 blog posts and counting, and we are actively working with knowledgeable experts who are contributing valuable insights and educational content. The directory itself lists thousands of holistic and integrative veterinary practices across all 50 states.
Another important part of the mission is community involvement. While I spend a great deal of time researching and adding veterinarians to the directory, I know there are many incredible practitioners across the country who may not yet be listed. That's why we created a Submit Listing form, allowing veterinarians and contributors to help expand the directory so more pet owners can find the support they need.
The hope is that over time, this site becomes more than just a directory — it becomes a trusted resource for holistic pet care education and discovery.
Zoe's Legacy

Every time someone finds a practitioner who helps their pet feel better, every time a pet owner discovers a new approach that improves their animal's quality of life, the work feels worthwhile.
When I look at Zoe today, I'm reminded of how close we came to losing the chance to know her. She has been part of our family for eight wonderful years, and she continues to inspire this project in ways she will never fully understand.
If HolisticVetDirectory.com helps even one precious animal live a healthier life — and brings peace of mind to the people who love them — then every hour spent building and improving this site will have been worth it.
Thank you for being part of this journey, and for caring about animals as much as we do.
